Coaching
is an effective, personalized relationship that focuses on
the client taking action toward their personal and professional
vision, goals and desires. It's an ongoing partnership that
helps produce results. Through the process of coaching, clients
deepen their learning, improve their performance and enhance
their quality of life.
Professionally trained coaches listen and
observe so they can customize their approach to the individual
client's needs. Coaching accelerates progress by providing
greater focus and awareness of choice. Coaches believe everyone
is naturally creative and resourceful, and it is the coach's
function to uncover the resources that already exist.
Imagine
a relationship where the total focus is on you, on what you
want in your life, and on what will help you achieve it.
Coaching has been with us for a long time.
Today, a fundamental role of a coach is to assist individuals
and organizations navigate change, handle transitions, and
stay true to reaching their goals. Coaching accelerates progress
by providing you with greater focus and an awareness of your
choices. As you go through the process, you learn more about
yourself, how to improve your performance and enhance your
quality of life. |

Valerie assists clients to develop a plan and set
goals to accomplish objectives through a variety of tools and conversations
unique to coaching. In her unique way, she holds clients to a higher
standard of performance than they might hold themselves, but always
with respect and care.
The value of her coaching services goes well beyond
just the performance of tasks. It is in the journey of accomplishing
that the client gains new understandings, insights and richness
such that they design a future while learning to live life to its
fullest. Along the way, she offers empowering, in-depth insight
while considering the whole person, no matter what brings the client
to coaching. She gets to the heart of what may be holding people
back or keeping them stuck.

In the changing world of work, coaching provides
a way of managing, a way of communicating, a way of thinking, and
a way of being. As a result, coaching produces results beyond people's
expectations. The Next Step utilizes a variety of tools to support
individuals, including:
- The Coaching Process
– The coaching partnership typically begins with a personal
interview (either face-to-face or by teleconference call) to assess
the individual's current opportunities and challenges, define
the scope of the relationship, identify priorities for action,
and establish specific desired outcomes. Subsequent coaching sessions
may be conducted in person or over the telephone, with each session
lasting a previously established length of time. Between scheduled
coaching sessions, the client may be asked to complete specific
actions that support the achievement of one's personally prioritized
goals. The coach may provide additional resources in the form
of relevant articles, checklists, assessments, or models, to support
the individual's thinking and actions. The duration of the coaching
relationship varies depending on the individual's personal needs
and preferences but we request that clients commit to a minimum
3 month period.
- Assessments - A variety
of assessments are available to support the coaching process,
depending upon the needs and circumstances of the individual.
Assessments provide objective information which can enhance the
individual's self-awareness as well as awareness of others and
their circumstances, provide a benchmark for creating coaching
goals and actionable strategies, and offer a method for evaluating
progress.
- Concepts, models and principles
- A variety of concepts, models and principles drawn from the
behavioral sciences, management, literature, spiritual traditions
and/or the arts and humanities, may be incorporated into the coaching
conversation in order to increase the individual's self-awareness
and awareness of others, foster shifts in perspective, promote
fresh insights, provide new frameworks for looking at opportunities
and challenges, and energize and inspire the individual's forward
actions.
- Appreciative approach
- The appreciative approach is grounded in what's right, what's
working, what's wanted, and what's needed to get there. Using
an appreciative approach, our coaches model constructive communication
skills and methods the individual or team can utilize to enhance
personal communication effectiveness. The appreciative approach
incorporates discovery-based inquiry, proactive ways of managing
personal opportunities and challenges, constructive framing of
observations and feedback in order to elicit the most positive
responses from others, and envisioning success. The appreciative
approach is effective in harnessing possibility thinking and the
resulting goal-oriented action can be profound.
